The Bowerbird

The Bowerbird is a beautiful picture book that's a lot of fun to read.

Bert the bowerbird is building a beautiful nest to attract a mate, but his growing list of adornments fail to impress haughty Nanette. When Claude suggests one final addition, Bert is eager to follow his instructions. But can he trust Claude to look after his nest?

This is a fun story with a brilliant rhyming list, an adorable main character and a lot of heart. I loved reading it so much that I immediately had to go back to the start and begin again.

Catherine Rayner's illustrations are really special - Bert has so much personality and emotion, and the growing collections of items around his nest held lots of tiny details (I loved the way the Christmas fairy's expression changed when mean bird, Claude, arrived).

This is a really sweet picture book that I can see us enjoying again and again. Thank you Macmillan Children's Books for sending us a copy to review.
