Lunar New Year

These two brilliant titles from Scholastic are perfect for Lunar New Year celebrations.

I Love Chinese New Year follows a little girl called Mai-Anne as she and her family prepare for the new year. It features lots of traditions, a fun retelling of the great race (with an emphasis on the characteristics of the animals involved) and a wonderful, close-knit family.

If you don't celebrate Lunar New Year, it offers a colourful and insightful introduction into what goes on. We loved the swooping dragon and all the food!

All About Lunar New Year is another brilliant instalment in this fantastic non-fiction series (possibly my favourite so far!) The year chart was a big hit with both my Rainbows and Brownies group this week and it offers a great insight into Lunar New Year celebrations around the world for slightly older readers.

My favourite thing, however, is the crafts. There are so many, each dedicated to a different animal, that I'm going to be able to use this book again and again without repeating the same thing each year! I'm also excited to try out some of the recipes at home this weekend.
