Finn Jones Was Here is both one of the most heartbreaking novels I've ever read and one of the most hilarious. There were so many laugh out loud moments - I don't think I've read a book that made me laugh and almost cry on the same page before but Finn Jones achieved this on multiple occasions.
Eric's best friend, Finn Jones, was the world's biggest prankster. Now Eric can't believe Finn's not here anymore. ...Or is he?
Eric seems to be getting messages from beyond the grave, and as he follows Finn's wild, cryptic instructions, his hope grows that he'll find Finn laughing at the end. The journey also brings memories - and a truth that seems impossible to accept.
Finn Jones Was Here is a brilliant story about grief and friendship, balancing the intense pain of losing a loved one with the joy of life, dreams and memories (and the importance of a wavy arms flashback). I knew from reading the opening two chapters - which feature unicorn onesies and invisible ink eulogies at a funeral - that I was going to love this book, and the rest didn't disappoint. Eric, Finn and Cooper were fantastic characters, and Finn's epic quest kept me guessing throughout. I really cannot recommend this novel enough.
Thank you so much to Scholastic for sending me a copy to review.
