Common Wealth is a picture book aimed at older readers, addressing serious topics of colonialism, inclusion and unity. It's a thought provoking book that will generate conversation at home and in the classroom.
It explores what common wealth really means, and encourages readers to join together, to help both each other and the planet.
While addressing dark aspects of Australia's past and present, it is ultimately an uplifting story, filled with hope for a brighter future filled with tolerance and unity, but acknowledging that change is necessary before this can happen. Powerful lines will stick with readers long after they finish reading and this is a picture book that is hard to forget.
Common Wealth also contains some stunning artwork and would work well as part of an art topic in school, as well as history or literacy.
